WEEK TWO: LESSONS LEARNED, LESSONS TAUGHT

Day 6

Date: 21/07/2025

Learning under the moon light

Despite the rainy weather, we reached St. Mary’s HSS, Kizhakketheruvu before 9:15 AM and signed in. The school celebrated International Moon Day with a vibrant telescope display labeled "Chandrayaan Day", organized by the Social Science Club. Students delivered speeches on lunar exploration, and the campus was filled with curiosity and excitement.

I took my regular class in 8D during the first period, covering Social Reform Movements – Raja Ram Mohan Roy. During the interval, students visited the telescope area where Joshua from class 10 gave a clear explanation of its functioning. I also had two substitution periods in the same class, teaching about Jyotirao Phule and Pandita Ramabai, and later, Transport and Communication. We were also assigned duty near the telescope area to guide the students.

The day ended with the national anthem at 3:25 PM, and we signed out at 4:15 PM. It was a joyful day filled with teaching, learning, and scientific exploration—a perfect blend of academics and co-curricular involvement.

Day 7

Date: 23/07/2025

A Day of Commitment and Compassion

Despite the slight rain, we reached school before 9:15 AM and signed in. After the morning prayer and announcements, I handled my second-hour class in 8D, teaching “Formation of Political Organizations.” The session went smoothly, and a sweet moment was when Jestin, a student from 8D, shared chocolates with the class on his birthday.

Post-lunch, I took a substitution class in the same division, covering “Formation of All India Organization.” The day took an unexpected turn when a fellow trainee fainted and was taken to the hospital with the support of Binil Sir and two others. We continued with our duties, and the day ended with the national anthem at 3:25 PM, signing out by 4:15 PM. It was a day filled with dedication, support, and shared responsibility.

Day 8

Date: 25/07/2025

Revisiting Lessons, Strengthening Minds

Today was a calm and cloudy day without rain, setting a peaceful tone across the school. We reached before 9:15 AM and signed in on time. During the first hour in 8D, I conducted a revision session instead of the planned lesson, as advised by my mentor teacher. Through a question-and-answer discussion, I engaged the students in reviewing previous topics.

Each question was written on the blackboard, and students actively participated, marking correct answers in their textbooks and later copying them into their notebooks. The quiet classroom atmosphere helped maintain focus, and I also provided individual support by checking their notebooks. The day ended with the national anthem at 3:25 PM, and we signed out at 4:15 PM, closing a thoughtful and academically fruitful day.

Day 9

Date: 26/07/2025

Stepping Forward with Confidence

Today marked my general observation day, and the school followed the Thursday timetable since it was Saturday. Despite light rain, we reached school on time and signed in before 9:15 AM. My observation class in 8D was on the topic “Partition and Division,” which I taught using PowerPoint, charts, and activity cards. The class was observed by Nisha Miss from our college. Though a bit nervous initially, I gained confidence as the class progressed, and the students responded well. The observer teacher offered encouraging feedback and valuable suggestions.

During lunch break, our group performed our regular lunch duty, supported by student volunteers assigned to each classroom wing. The day wrapped up with the national anthem at 3:25 PM, followed by evening dispersal duty and sign-out at 4:15 PM. It was a fulfilling day that strengthened both my teaching skills and sense of shared responsibility.

⭐ WEEKEND REFLECTION: INSIGHTS FROM THE CLASSROOM⭐

Date: 19th July 2025
Time: 10.00 AM- 11:30 AM

As part of our Phase 1 teaching practice, a weekend reflection session was held at the college General Hall under the guidance of Dr. Praveena, Swathy Miss, Sithusha Miss, and Sreelekshmi Miss. Representatives from 18 practicing schools shared their week’s experiences—ranging from lesson delivery and class management to challenges like limited ICT resources, discipline issues, and festival-time disruptions.

Despite the hurdles, student-teachers showed great adaptability by completing lessons, creating teaching aids, managing substitutions, and engaging in school events like Shastramela. The session offered a valuable platform for mutual learning, peer support, and motivation, helping us prepare better for the weeks ahead.

MY INTERNSHIP DIARY: ONE WEEK AT A TIME

 DAY 1

An Exciting Start

The first phase of our school internship program began on July 14, 2025, at St. Mary's Higher Secondary School, Kizhakketheruvu, marking a significant and exciting step in our journey as teacher trainees. A total of 22 teacher trainees from our college reported to the school for practice teaching, including 6 members from the social science department, myself included.

We reached the school on time and completed the morning register sign-in before 9:15 AM. The day began with a warm welcome session led by Rose Mary teacher, followed by important instructions from the Headmaster, Raju Sir. Each trainee was assigned a mentor teacher based on their subject; I was allotted Koshi. K. Babu Sir as my mentor. After the morning prayer there was a NCC program conducted on the school premises, adding to the days vibrancy and co curricular richness.

Although i didn't have a class on the first day, i observed the school environment and routines. It was a smooth and meaningful start to our teaching practice.

DAY 5
A Quiet Day Amidst a Strike

We arrived at school before 9:25 AM and signed in as usual. Due to a student political party strike, only a few students were present, and the school buses did not operate. As a result, there was no morning duty, and my scheduled class in 8D could not be conducted since no students were present. My mentor teacher, Koshi K. Babu Sir, spent the time checking attendance register and discussed with us about the upcoming International Moon Day program, on July 21. There was no lunch duty, and we used the free time to complete our pending tasks. We signed out at evening, ending a quiet but reflective day.
